Prevention
Do not position your computer screen under a bright fluorescent light or opposite a window.

Install an anti glare screen; reduce blur by cleaning it often and tuning the display so that there is a high contrast between the words and background.

When reading or writing, light should come from over your shoulder - the right shoulder if you're left-handed, the left shoulder if you're right-handed.

Turn on a low light when watching television and sit directly in front of the screen, 6-7ft/1.8-2m away.

Wear polarised sunglasses in sunlight, particularly when sunbathing, boating, skiing or driving long distances.

Relief
If your eyes feel tired and ache after prolonged close work, refresh them by refocusing on a distant object for several seconds.

Whenever possible, rest your eyes for 15 minutes every hour or so.
