Get your blood pressure checked by your doctor or nurse every 3 to 5 years. Avoid raising your blood pressure - it leads to heart attacks and strokes. Here are some tips:
Stop smoking. It will decrease your risk of heart attack and strokes.
Take regular physical exercise unless your doctor advises against it.
Maintain a normal weight by eating a well-balanced diet and exercising often.
Limit your salt intake. Avoid salty foods and do not add salt to your meals.
Cut down your alcohol intake to less than lo units per week. (One unit is a measure of spirits, a glass of wine or a half pint of beer or lager.)
Get a pet. Caring for, playing with, talking to and even watching pets can reduce stress and blood pressure.
